Das hässliche Entlein – Hardcover-Buch

My son kept asking if the duckling would ever find his family—the emotional storytelling really grabbed him, and the hardcover binding feels sturdy enough for nightly rereads.

Pinkney’s watercolors give each feather and puddle so much texture that my daughter keeps flipping back to the pond scene just to trace the ripples. It’s a long read for a picture book, but the pacing never drags, and the ending still gets a little lump in my throat every time.

My three-year-old was completely mesmerized by the illustrations, especially the ugly duckling's transformation across the pages. The way Jerry Pinkney captures the duckling's loneliness without making it too scary is perfect for bedtime reading. We've already read it three nights in a row.
